Stolen from
artemis_winter who stole it from the Guardian. A couple answers are stolen from her too ;)
THE GUARDIAN Q&A
Please answer a minimum of thirty-five questions, including the first two and last two. Where the question demands a yes or no answer, perhaps you would be kind enough to expand on your response.
1. What is your idea of perfect happiness?
There are different layers of perfect happiness. A night in with Shawn, with the two of us being silly and making each other laugh. Or being out with my friends, being silly and making each other laugh. Watching my cats be silly and making me laugh. And on a more serious note, reading a favorite book, writing a story and having the plot pull together, working on needlecraft projects.
2. What is your greatest fear?
Losing those I love too soon.
3. Which living person do you most admire and why?
Lynda Barry for creating an amazing life for herself despite a somewhat cruddy (yet magical) childhood.
4. What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
Laziness. Why can’t I enjoy working out, or getting tasks done that I need to get done? Why would I always rather just read a book and damn everything else?
5. What is the trait you most deplore in others?
closed mindedness
6. What has been your most embarrassing moment?
junior high. All of it.
7. What vehicles do you own?
My poor beat up Honda Civic.
8. What is your greatest extravagance?
books and yarn and sometimes pretty clothes
9. What is your most treasured possession?
My vast collection of journals.
10. Where would you like to live?
If I didn't live in Chicago, I'd like to go somewhere warm. Still don't know where that is yet, although almost all of Shawn's family transplanted to the west coast last year.
11. What makes you depressed?
my severe lack of spine, which allows people to walk all over me.
12. What do you most dislike about your appearance?
my very coarse body hair that I honestly think is thicker and darker than anybody else's on earth.
13. Who would play you in a movie of your life?
Haven't a clue.
14. What is your most unappealing habit?
shyness, which sometimes leads people to think I'm unfriendly sometimes.
15. What is your favourite smell?
vanilla
16. What is your favourite word?
I've been told I say "seriously" a lot.
17. What is your favourite book?
It's taking me way too long to think of an answer to this.
18. What is your fancy dress costume of choice?
flapper
19. Radiator or air conditioning?
Yes.
20. Cat or dog?
I have cats, but I love dogs too. I'm an animal person, not just a cat or dog person.
21. Is it better to give or to receive?
Both are quite lovely.
22. What is your guiltiest pleasure?
really bad top 40 music from the 80's, sung at the top of my lungs with the radio.
24. To whom would you most like to say sorry and why?
my grandma, for not being there as much as I should have when she was sick.
25. What or who is the greatest love of your life?
Shawn. That was easy.
26. Which living person do you most despise and why?
There are certain teachers I had when I was a kid that I can't think of without getting angry.
27. Have you ever said "I love you" without meaning it?
Never.
28. Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
seriously, that rocks, no fucking way
29. What has been your biggest disappointment?
Probably not being able to make a career out of my writing, the way I always thought I would. But it could still happen, and if it doesn't that doesn't make me any less a writer.
30. What is your greatest regret?
It's not fashionable to have regrets. "Regret is a useless emotion." I don't know if I have regrets, but there are definitely a few little things and one or two big things I'd change if I could go back.
31. When and where were you happiest?
Possibly when I was a Columbia student, doing tons of writing, making friends I'd keep forever, just starting to go out dancing a lot and generally having a great time. Not that things haven't been just as awesome since. I'm not one of those people who hang onto their college days. But back then, I didn't have to work full time ;) Yes, I'm lazy, so what?
32. When did you last cry, and why?
I think around Xmas when I was severely stressed out and lost my Saturday shift because I wasn't able to stand up to someone.
33. How do you relax?
Man, that's all I do is relax! I'm relaxing right now. My job is basically making other people relax. What I need to do is rev up.
36. What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
More energy would be nice.
37. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Being there for my loved ones.
38. What keeps you awake at night?
Money worries.
39. What song would you like played at your funeral?
Happy Phantom - Tori Amos.
40. How would you like to be remembered?
As someone who could always counted on, whether as a shoulder to cry on or just for a laugh.
41. What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
I'm still learning.
