29 part II

Our party was Sat. night and yesterday was spent recovering. The flat doesn't look bad at all now that we've dumped most of the unused mixers and cleared away the remaining alcohol. A good time was definitely had. There's no way that I can cover everything that went on, so I'm going to sum up using my patented [livejournal.com profile] antiquehighheelList Format.

1. Josh and Ian came! Josh is working for Americorp in Cincinatti right now, doing Meals on Wheels and is quite enjoying it. He says the old people are all into the same stuff he is...hanging out, talking shit and playing cards. And he loves the morbid stories that they tell, and asks questions like, "And what was the recovery time before your second husband died?" Miss that boy dearly.

2. My friend Annie managed to find a babysitter for her son, and most of the single guys promptly fell in love with her. She gave us candy and a giant robot "Fraidy Cat" that sings "Somebody's Watching Me." The cats are terribly interested in it.

3. Jackie was doing some quality psychic backrubs that night. He backrubbed Annie, Josh, Ian, me, Nick, his boyfriend Jaime and Amy. Whew! Talk about putting that boy to work. He mostly gave me health advice, told me to eat more good fats like nuts and avocados (I thought I already did!) and to do push ups because that will help with my job, and at one point he gave me a big hug and said, "It's good to hug someone who has so much love, and you need to hug more people." Awwwww.

4. [livejournal.com profile] eyeinject wasn't able to make it and she was extremely missed. Lots of people asked about her. But I promised she'll be at every other party. Right, Michelle?

I was happy with the turnout. Some people weren't able to make it, which was okay since GermanFest was going on. (I promise we'll never make that mistake again!) Unfortunately, aside from the date, I made a huge mistake and invited my ex-boyfriend, Bob.

wtf! )

And so begins me frantically getting ready for our party on Sat. Lots of cleaning, cooking and liquor-purchasing to do. At least now with our new dishwasher I don't have to worry about dishes anymore. *dances*

Unfortunately, when Shawn and I finally settled on a date, we had no idea that it was the same weekend as German Octoberfest, otherwise known to us as BeerFest. This is a twice a year festival (Octoberfest, which takes place in September, and Mayfest, which takes place in June), in which hordes of people descend on Lincoln Square, take up all the parking, drink giant plastic steins of beer, eat bratwurst, and leave all their trash on our steps. Wünderbar. We've never actually participated in this thing, and see it as nothing more than an annoyance. Like we don't have enough problems with drunks from living next to Leland Liquors...oh wait, I'm sorry, I mean Tar Bar.

The party is still on of course. I think it'll die down around the time people start getting here. All the same, if you live in the city, I highly recommend taking public transit that night. We're right off the Western Brown Line, which runs till 2AM. You can either crash here or we'll keep numbers for cabs handy. If you're driving...well, like I said, parking should be easier after ten. Just follow anyone whose wobbling towards their car and steal their spot.

I'll probably try buying as much stuff as I can tomorrow, so I don't have to move my car again this week. Stupid Germans.
