Shawn and I just finished watching My So-Called Life. *satisfied sigh* I forgot how perfect that show was, with it's language ("Like, you know, or...whatever."), its spot on characters (introspective Angela, attention-hungry Rayanne, boy-disease ridden Jordan, awkward Brian), and even though there were a few Very Special Episodes (remember the one where Juliana Hatfield played a homeless angel?), everything was very on target. But like most of my favorite TV series, the plug was pulled just as things were getting good. It ends with Angela getting back together with Jordan, but discovering that Brian wrote the apology letter for him ("So? She's still going to die. We're all going to die someday!") She and Rayanne still aren't speaking, and Rickie is living with English teacher Mr. Katimsky. So here's what I think the second season would have been like.

Angela: Continues to date Jordan Catalano, who finally starts to act like a Real Boyfriend to her, but continues to fail to live up to her ideal of him (like having a full conversation). Angela starts to comprehend this, but every time she watches him at band practice or he says something simplistic ("I'm like, really upset today, or whatever.") she thinks he's secretly deep. He says he loves her and she finally has sex with him. It takes her a full angsty episode to figure out how she feels about this.

Brian: Stays his poor awkward self, throwing himself into his studies, avoiding Angela yet still hanging out in front of her house. But slowly, incrementally, he starts to change. He gets a girlfriend and begins to relax, blow off some classes and dress better. Angela is jealous, but won't admit it. The girlfriend wants to have sex and Brian is absolutely terrified. He admits this to Rayanne after she badgers him, and then she pulls him into an unlocked car and takes his virginity.

Rayanne: Is still avoided by Angela and is torn up about it. Finally Sharon Chersky (thanks [livejournal.com profile] lulu_plum) locks them in the girls bathroom together. They fight until Rayanne bursts into tears and then they both start crying and hugging and Angela forgives her. After Our Town, she becomes a big drama nerd. The next play is 42nd St. and she falls madly in love with the male lead—the New Boy, who is oblivious and becomes her Jordan Catalano. There are still a few Very Special Episodes about her drinking problem.

Rickie: Is discovered to be living with Katimsky and his partner. A scandal is made out of it and the evil principal threatens to fire him. Rickie feels guilty and tries to run away but Katimsky finds him and that's how Rickie gets two dads. Katimsky threatens to sue the principal for discrimination and gets to keep his job. However...Rickie is tired of not knowing any other gay people and goes to his first gay club with a fake ID. He meets his first boyfriend...a little older, a little dangerous, and only interested in Hot Underage Sex. Katimsky tries to warn him but Rickie won't listen. He catches the guy with someone else and gets his heart broken. His heart will keep getting broken till senior year, when a band geek comes out.

Sharon: Pretty much stays the same.

Patty and Grahm: Grahm works at the restaurant and finally kisses Halle Lowenthall. Drama! Angst! He tells Patty, who freaks out. He spends a couple weeks with his brother Neil. Grahm tries to sell his part of the restaurant, but Halle decides to do the Noble Thing and sell her part instead. Patty sells the printing business, to the horror of her parents, and buys Halle's share of the restaurant. In the midst of all this, they find out Angela is having sex, and confront her about it, which makes her curl up into the fetal position from the horror of it all.
