the weekend round up
Oct. 24th, 2006 06:53 pmEveryone else is posting about their weekend, so I will too.
On Friday we saw the Dresden Dolls at the Vic. Shawn and I are officially old, but we really really like the Vic. Because we can sit. Sitting is nice. The opening band, The Red Paintings were great, despite having their stuff stolen earlier that day. But the crowd was very supportive and they commented that we had "great energy." They're from Australia and the singer commented, "I don't want to go back to Australia and Vegemite and fucking stingrays that take you out." (I'm sure the one Aussie on my f-list would disagree with that.) The Dresden Dolls rocked hard. I was terribly happy with the whole thing. It was one of those shows where the band could play for a week straight and I'd think, "It's over already?" Unfortunately I had to miss a Halloween party at Maplewood and a birthday potluck for
bibliomouse, but we'll make it up this weekend.
Saturday was work and stress and badness and frustration, and when I came home all I wanted to do was order Chinese food with Shawn and watch DVDs. So we did. It's better now.
Sunday Shawn and I cleaned out our linen closet. We should have taken before and after pictures, because before it was jammed with so much stuff that we could barely smush our clean towels in it. Now it's all pretty and organized and there's hardly anything in it. We threw out tons of extension cords for obsolete technology, sheets and blankets our moms gave us that we never use, painting supplies that were relocated to the basement, etc. We're so proud of our efforts, that next Sunday we might tackle the front hall closet. Eek!
That night we went with The Pirate Crew (you know who you are) to see King Lear at the Goodman Theater. It was pretty fantastic...it was set in modern times with a Slavic flavor that worked very nicely. Shawn and I usually see shoestring plays that have few props and no decor whatsoever, so we commented how amazing it was to see a play with an actual budget.
Today is usually my 13 hr day, but I traded with someone so I'm working 8-7 on Friday instead. As soon as I post this, I'm off to run a bunch of errands. Then hopefully I'll have time before the Gilmore Girls to work on my costume. There might even be another post about that.
