It's late and I should get offline, but not without a meme first. Here's that food meme, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] mumchancegaloot which was stolen from his girl.

1. If there was only one condiment on this earth that you could take to heaven with you, what would it be?

Mmm...salsa!

2. When you're sitting home on a Saturday night, feeling depressed in your fat clothes, and no-one's there to judge you, what do you like to scarf?

Well, [livejournal.com profile] hologram_golem is always here to judge me, but lucky for me he indulges with me. On a lazy night we'll order pizza and if it's summer we'll make an ice cream run to 7-11 for the most intense Ben n Jerry's we can find, then we'll finish the pint in one sitting with two spoons. If it's winter, we'll just have some hot chocolate instead.

3. Your favourite food item?

My Irish half cries out for potatoes. Potato soup, mashed potatoes, fries, all good. Luckily I like sweet potatoes too, which are healthier.

4. It's a hot day, and you could drink _____ by the gallon.

Home brewed blackberry sage iced tea.

5. Milk chocolate or white?

Milk (or dark) definitely. White chocolate is good stuff, but not the good stuff.

6. Something you like to eat that no-one else seems to.

Cheese and fruit. Cheddar with apple or banana is a happy combination that seems to apall other people.

7. Similarly, what's the weirdest food or food combination that you love?

I think that's the weirdest. I've never been one of those people who eat things like peanut butter with pickles.

8. When (if) you go out drinking, what's your Summer drink of choice, and your Winter drink of choice?

I used to do this. In my early 20s I'd get cranberry vodkas in winter and lemonade vodkas in summer. Now it's just vodka 7 all year round. But I stay firm in my loyalty to vodka.

9. Do you like your food spicy?

I enjoy the spice, as long as it doesn't overpower the food. Some of the girls at work really really like hot sauce with their pad thai and get super mad if the restaurant forgets to give it to them. I'll keep it on the side, but if I mix it in, all I can taste is hot sauce.

10. It's your birthday, woo, and you get to go to your favourite cultural restaurant. What is it, and what do you get?

It's my birthday, so we're going to the Italian restaurant next to Davis theater on Lincoln (whose name I can never remember). If I don't get one of the specials, I'm going to have bruschetta, spinach gnocchi with red wine and tiramisu for dessert.

11. One food you wouldn't touch if you were dying.

Pickles smeared with peanut butter.

12. Comfort food?

Anything that involves cheese...quesadillas, omelettes, pizza...my poor skin!

13. If you were traveling through exotic countries, would you try everything on offer, or stick to what you know (ie: McDonalds)?

I've done both. When I went to Ireland with my friend Diane we ate a lot of McDonalds, but that was mostly because it was the cheapest thing we could get. Though we did have the Irish breakfast every morning at our B&B...eggs sunnyside up, sausage, blood pudding, "bacon" that was actually fried ham, and beans. After a few days I could feel my heart hurt! When I went with Shawn to England/Scotland we ate mostly Indian food, which I think counts as authentic British cuisine nowadays. It was super yummy and I loved every bite.

14. Favourite fishy seafood item?

Salmon, though I love tilapia too.

15. It's freezing cold, you're feeling poorly, and you're hankering for some soup. What be it?

Shawn and I have been making this potato with white kidney bean soup a lot lately, and it rocks.

16. You like dessert?

Despite all the chocolate I'm listing, I'm not a huge dessert person. A small hit of chocolate (or a whole pint of ice cream) is usually enough for me. But at restaurants I love fruity desserts, like the fruit tarts at Selmarie.

17. Hot drink?

I like coffee. I like tea. I like the java and it likes me.

18. You're on death row, you jerk, and you get to choose your last meal. You can have anything you want - so?

Grilled tilapia with mashed sweet potatoes and a fruit tart for dessert. But quite frankly if I was on death row and it was my last meal, I think I'd be too freaked out to eat!

19. Milkshakes or smoothies?

At least I can pretend that a smoothie is healthy! In the summer the little food place by the spa has these chocolate banana smoothies that you can add a hit of protein powder to that's pretty much as good as a meal.

20. Your perfect breakfast?

Eggs Benedict (no bacon please) with hash browns, fruit on the side and good coffee.

21. What's your signature dish/do you like to cook?

Since giving up meat (except the fishy kind, as you can obviously tell), I've learned to embrace the eggplant. I make a pretty good ratatouille.

Drat! Now I'm hungry again!
