work-weekend

My weekend was uneventful, but still not bad. I think there were semi-plans on Sat. that fell apart, and I couldn't have been happier. By 8:30 I was dozing off to "Spellbound," a DVD about spelling bees. Yes, I know, how could I have fallen asleep to something so riveting? But eventually I was prodded awake and it was actually pretty fun to watch. Poor kids...so much pressure. On Sunday both Jackie and our friend Stan came over. Stan is Shawn's brother Aaron's friend...the one who Bob tried getting into a fake-fight with at our party. He actually explained the situation a little more to us...I guess they both practice Aikido, but at very different dojos. Stan's dojo is more about the discipline of martial arts, and Bob's dojo is known for being a bunch of assholes who are all, "Look how hard I can punch someone!" That makes so much sense! When they talked earlier the conversation was like, "Oh, you're from that dojo?" "Oh...you're from that dojo." So later on when Bob got drunk(er) it was like a Karate Kid thing with dueling dojos. *sigh* Well, you definitely can't say that our parties aren't interesting.
Other than that, it was a nice night. We ate Shawn-prepared chili and Jackie told me about this article he's writing about dominatrixes. Apparently there's a list of common traits among dommes; They're mostly vegetarian, they all love animals, and they don't hate men. Stan and Jackie talked about computers, and we discussed the difference between Spike Jonze and Michel Gondry. Then eventually the conversation strayed to dot coms versus stores and I got very sleepy until they finally noticed and I wailed, "We're talking about inventory." They laughed and we showed them an episode from our new favorite show "Spaced," a terribly amusing British show that was a precursor to "Shaun of the Dead."
To finish up, here is my favorite LJ quote of the week:
"Pyromania is the gateway science." - Jonathon Feakins.

Date: 2005-09-19 08:10 pm (UTC)I really want to see the Spaced show. There are so many British items I would like to see. How much did your free range DVD player cost? Or are you not allowed to tell because it was Shawn's bday gift?
